Read about the church restoration
St George’s has been fortunate to have Seamus as its Verger for over 15 years and he has become a vital part of what makes us such an integral part of the community. Whether you are organising a wedding or other special service, a concert or a carol service or simply attending the 8am eucharist , you will have had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Seamus and getting to know him.
Now he is taking a little time out, whilst the restoration work takes place, and has decided to embark on a Pilgrimage, that worshipers have undertaken for centuries, and to use this to help us raise funding.
Seamus's Appeal.
“I have decided to go on Pilgrimage, and would greatly appreciate your support.
The Rector and Church Wardens of St George's have very kindly granted me a three-month sabbatical during which I plan to walk the “Camino”, the pilgrim route from St Jean de Pied de Port in the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela, a journey of some 500 miles. This should take about 40 days (the same length as Lent.), averaging 12.5 miles a day (blisters permitting) and staying at pilgrim refuges every night. I leave on Monday 24th May.
You can support me in the following ways:-
Every penny of what is raised in this way will go to the St George’s Hanover Square Foundation, as I am financing the trip myself. The Foundation is currently funding the repair, restoration and refurbishment of the church and the purchase of a new organ.
Best wishes and God bless you.”
