In the 1760s a new organ was made for St George’s by the renowned Swiss organ builder Snetzler. This was rebuilt and expanded in the nineteenth century by fine English builders. If we still had this organ we would almost certainly be looking to restore it, but nothing survives. Our current organ was built in the early 1970s at a time when there was much experimentation, and sadly it has never been an instrument that matches St George’s fine musical traditions. It is undistinguished, creaky and unreliable. To repair it, and then maintain it in the years to come, would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds and it would remain a flawed instrument.
It is time to start again, in order that St George’s has a classically built organ to serve the church into the twenty-second century.

After an extensive review of organ builders in England, Europe and the USA, we have commissioned Richards, Fowkes and Co of Ooltewah, Tennessee to design and build our new organ because:
